Blake Forms Exploratory Committee for Kansas Governor Run

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- TJ Blake officially announced his plan to form a gubernatorial exploratory committee early Monday morning for the 2016 Democratic nomination.  As a third year, political science and journalism major at the University of Kansas, a member of the Robert J Dole Institute of Politics and as a member of the 2012 Davis campaign, TJ has devoted himself to community development and the need for reasonable compromise within Kansas politics.

“If the decision to place my name in the gubernatorial election is made, the decision will be grounded in the need for solutions to our current dilemma of Kansas partisanship,” TJ said. “Representation must not come at the expense of compromise and educated discussion.”

TJ is a Hutchinson native from a middle class home that emphasized the meaning of hard work and dedication.  TJ was a state champion debater and tennis player who graduated top of his class with an International Baccalaureate diploma. TJ’s success was supported and encouraged by his two siblings and loving parents – who are employed in the working class and as an English professor at their local community college.

Through mission trips and public service, TJ’s minister at the Emanuel Lutheran Church inspired his dedication to social justice that he continues today. Despite reasonable opportunities to study outside the Midwest, TJ chose to pursue a degree at the University of Kansas in order to remain close to his family and community.

Alongside TJ is his campaign manager and treasurer, Joseph La Herran, field director Isaac Welsh, and communication director Amy Melby. With everything the team brings to the table, this will surely be a race to watch.
